Mokuzou Aizen Myouou Zazou

Hello! How was your St. Valentine’s Day? Did you spend happy time with your lover?

No? Don’t worry. You will find your best partner if you visit the temple, “Myoukou Ji”, to see “Mokuzou Aizen Myouou Zazou” in Ojiya.

“Mokuzou Aizen Myouou Zazou” is the principal image of Buddha of “Myoukyou Ji”. The statue was made with joined wooden block technique called “Yosegi Zukuri” in the late Kamakura Period. It is said that the statue was brought from “Izu” when “Tanaka Ooinosuke Minamoto Yosihusa”, who became the lord of the castle “Uchimagaki Jo”, moved to “Kawai” in Ojiya.

People believe that “Mokuzou Aizen Myouou Zazou” will answer their request especially in the field of dyeing because the Japanese characters and the phonetic sounds of “Aizen” are similar to “Aizome”, which means indigo dyeing. Therefore, “Mokuzou Aizen Myouou Zazou” has been worshiped by local dye and cloth processing manufacturers in Ojiya. And of course don’t forget that “Aizen Myouou” is the Buddha god of matchmaking!

On the second Saturday in June in every summer, “Aizen Maturi” festival is held at “Myoukou Ji” and many people gather to celebrate the arrival of summer with enjoying fireworks, street stalls and entertainments. Why don’t you visit there to meet your future lover?

“Mokuzou Aizen Myouou Zazou” is designated as one of national important cultural properties.
