Chijimi Seizou No Shin Zu
I will start with “Sanjyo” today.
There are many alleys to visit in Sanjyo downtown. If you are an “Ojiya Chijimi” freak, you should walk along one of the alleys called “Akakabeya Kouji”. Nothing you can see around the lane nowadays but 184 years ago a baby was born. His name is “Kaeriyama Ryoutetsu”.
“Ryoutetsu” was good at painting since he was a child and visited Kyoto to study painting under a few famous painters. He became a Japanese-style painter and named himself “Kaeriyama Ungai”.
“Chijimi Seizou No Shin Zu” is one of his important works telling the traditional production process of “Ojiya Chijimi” cloth. His detailed observation and skilful expression of drawing convey the atmosphere of life of people in the early “Meiji” era in a vivid manner.
Forgot to say, “Akakabeya” is the stage family name of “Kaeriyama”.
“Chijimi Seizou No Shin Zu” is designated as one of cultural properties by Ojiya city.
