GOHEN DAIMYOU GYOURETSU

You should make a memo on your schedule for this great performance held in Ojiya on 24th of August.

“GOHEN DAIMYOU GYOURETSU” is a daimyou procession inherited by local people living at Takanashi Chyo in Ojiya.

About 150 local people wearing clothes of Edo era march through the town. Young people perform “BAREN BURI” during the procession. “BAREN BURI” is a skilful technique to control a long rod with an ornament on the end.

It is said that “GOHEN DAIMYOU GYOURETSU” has been performed at least since the late Edo Era but the record was burned away when “SHINMEISYA” shrine got a fire in 1937.

Remained records show that “GOHEN DAIMYOU GYOURETSU” has been performed only 7 times (including this time) in the past 100 years! The latest was in 2004.

Don’t miss this chance to see this valuable cultural performance!
