UONUMA JINJYA AMIDA DOU

American Modern Architect, Louis Sullivan wrote “form ever follows function” in his essay. In Ojiya city, traditional Japanese buildings follow the Nature. UONUMA JINJYA AMIDA DOU was built in 1565, Muromachi era, and still exists. Most of Amida dou in Japan have a long bird’s wing like roof and under the roof there is a verandah surrounding the building. On the contrary, UONUMA JINJYA AMIDA DOU has a short overhang of the roof and a verandah just in front of the building. That is because Heavy Snow!
