DAI NO SAKA ODORI
“DAI NO SAKA ODORI” is one of “NENBUTSU ODORI” dances handed down by local people at “MATTO” in Ojiya.
The origin of “DAI NO SHAKA ODRI” has not been identified but it is said that Chijimi merchants introduced the dance from another place in early modern period and it originally started for prosperity of the Buddhism during the medieval period.
17th of August is the day on which “AWA KANNON”, a wooden statue of Goddess of Mercy, drifted to Ojiya in “SHINANO GAWA” river. The statue has been enshrined at “ENZOUJI” temple and exhibited on the same day every year.
“DAI NO SAKA ODORI” is performed at the front garden of the temple at the same time. Without any instruments, there are just a pace maker, dancers and songs.
Why don’t you enjoy this nostalgic atmosphere in this summer?
“DAI NO SAKA ODORI” is designated as intangible cultural asset by Ojiya city.
